Geithain, October 21, 2025 - A very special excursion was on the agenda for pupils in classes 3a and 3b at Geithain International Primary School on Tuesday. In keeping with the science lesson topic "From grain to bread", the children visited the Claus bakery to see how delicious bread and rolls are made from grain. The smell of fresh bread, rolls and cakes was in the air as soon as they entered. In the warm bakery, the children were warmly welcomed by the master baker, who showed them how a simple grain is turned into fragrant bread. He began by presenting a bowl full of golden yellow wheat grains. "This is where it all starts," he explained and let the children let the grains trickle through their fingers. He then led them to the grinder, where the grains are ground into fine flour. Everyone was amazed at how hard grains were turned into soft, white flour. The master baker then showed how flour, water, yeast and salt are processed into a dough. The children found the large machines in the bakery particularly exciting: One rolls the dough flat before it is processed further, and another shapes bread rolls. It quickly became clear how much effort and work goes into every loaf of bread. At the end, the pupils were allowed to ask their many questions. For example: "When does the baker actually get up?", "How many rolls do you bake a day?" or "How many types of grain are there in the world?". With many new impressions and a hunger for bread, the children and teachers thanked the Claus bakery for the exciting morning.
