Where has the time gone? I've just enrolled the dolphins and parrots in school and it's already the end of year 4.
As we do every year, we celebrated this special day in a festive setting at the Bürgerhaus in Geithain. Before the ceremony started at 5 p.m., our graduates wrapped themselves in their gowns and were almost bursting with pride - or was it the excitement?
And suddenly music played and both classes walked into the large ballroom with their class teachers Mrs. Isak and Mrs. Möbius leading the way. All eyes of the parents, grandparents, siblings and friends were on the children.
The principal welcomed Mrs. Bergmann to the party and handed over the microphone to our 3rd graders, who, as every year, came up with a great program. This year we visited a circus and all the children suddenly became English circus animals. Also in the ring were ring master, animal trainer and juggler. The program ended with a song accompanied by dance, where the third graders simply brought our graduates on stage to share the moment.
After the program, Mrs. Isak and Mrs. Möbius gave a speech or rather an ode to their great classes. Even though they went to great lengths to recount the beautiful and funny moments, there was also a lot of crying. Because even if the graduation of the 4th grade is a reason to celebrate and all families were terribly proud of their children, it also always means farewell pain and tears.
Accompanied by violin music, we continued with our certificate ceremony, where the four best pupils of this year were awarded a scholarship for our grammar school. Rebecca Heinicke, Lea Mitreuther, Friedrich Gut and Luise Hoffmann graduated from elementary school with top grades and were celebrated in style.
The evening of the report card ceremony also marked the end of something else: the era of Mrs. Bergmann as principal of the IPSG, who had to cry at least as much as our students that evening. She will now teach at our elementary school in Meerane before taking her well-deserved retirement next year.
We will miss our dolphins and parrots as well as Mrs. Bergmann very much and will always think back fondly to our wonderful time together.
