Excursion to the farm

On Friday before the project week, class 4a of the International Primary School Geithain visited a farm. The excitement was great! Which animals will we see? Would we be allowed to pet them? With many questions and great anticipation in our luggage, we took the S-Bahn towards Borna. Arriving at the Petergrube stop, the first cows were already spotted. The farm owner Mr. Frommhold was already waiting for us. But before we went to the cows, he first explained the difference between oats, corn and field beans to the children in the field. Everyone listened attentively and also asked exciting questions.

The next step was finally to visit the cows. The children could count ten of them in total. Among them were four little calves - the highlight of the excursion. The children were particularly taken with the little black and white one. They learned the difference between dairy, suckler and beef cows. Then it was off to the farm to see the other animals.

Once there, the children couldn't take their eyes off the tractors. But first we all had to fortify ourselves and had an idyllic breakfast next to the chicken coop. Afterwards, everyone who wanted to had a go in the tractor. This resulted in some great snapshots. Afterwards, the children marveled at the freshly hatched chicks. They were also able to pay a visit to the pigs. Afterwards, each child was allowed to try out a trick with the farm dog Charlie. Everyone thought that was great.

At the end, the farm owner had thought of something special. When he drove out of the barn with the big combine harvester, the children's mouths dropped open. They couldn't believe how huge it was and the noise it made.

Many children were so enthusiastic about the visit to the farm that they have already signed up for an internship. All in all, we had a great day and learned a lot!
