On 04.04.2025, the meerkat class 2b of the IPS Geithain went on an exciting excursion to Chemnitz. Together with their teachers Ms. Vojik and Ms. Dr. Semmler, the pupils took the train to the Saxon Museum of Archaeology (smac), which is located directly in the city center of Chemnitz.
In the museum, the children learned a lot about the history of the earth and the development of life on earth. The insight into the life of Stone Age people was particularly fascinating: How they lived, what animals there were back then and what they might have looked like. The children marveled at prehistoric tools, animal models and old finds.
The practical part of the excursion was a particular highlight: the pupils were allowed to make their own flour using Stone Age tools and weave their own bracelets from ferns - just like real Stone Age children! This required skill and patience - but the results were impressive!
At the end of the day, everyone returned to Geithain enthusiastic and with many new impressions. The excursion was educational, exciting and a great experience for the whole class.
