Saxony with its capital Dresden as the cultural, historical and political center of our federal state is part of the curriculum in the subject of general knowledge. The children in class 4b therefore created a short presentation on many different topics in this subject. In addition to the conurbations of Chemnitz and Leipzig, we also listened to exciting facts about landscapes such as the Ore Mountains and Saxon Switzerland, learned a few words in Sorbian and acquired knowledge about the history of sights such as the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, Leipzig Zoo and the Leipzig Trade Fair.
Of course, Augustus the Strong and Dresden were also chosen as topics for a short lecture.
After Noah and Ruby from the parrot class had already told us lots of interesting things about their subjects, we went on an excursion to Dresden as a class on April 25, 2024, accompanied by three parents.
We met Kathrin Krause, a great tour guide who specializes in guided tours with children, at the Royal Palace in Dresden's old town. We explored the city with her and quickly realized that no matter where we went, the name Augustus the Strong followed us everywhere. Whether at the Frauenkirche, the Historic Green Vault or the Fürstenzug... Augustus the Strong contributed a lot to making our state capital so beautiful and the Florence on the Elbe.
After two hours of power-sight-seeing, we had a picnic lunch at the Kulturpalast. Re-energized, we took a 15-minute walk to the German Hygiene Museum. In addition to the nationally famous glass woman, we also saw many diseases, explored life as an "older person", did lots of experiments with our senses and finally ended up in a giant grocery store.
After a day full of impressions, we took the coach back to Geithain shortly after 2 p.m., exhausted, and we can now say: Dresden is beautiful - we'll be back in August!
