First Aid Education - How we help children at our school in an emergency

How do I react if someone is injured? What should I do if someone is unconscious? We asked ourselves these and many other questions on the educational day on May 2. The teachers from IPS Geithain met at 8 a.m. at the DRK in Geithain. Together with instructor Andreas Keller, we first looked at everyday situations and problems: running into another child, head injuries, lost teeth, lacerations, falls from the climbing frame and burns. In addition to organizational procedures in crisis situations, we were also specifically trained to perform resuscitation and practiced the correct positioning in the recovery position.

Another important component was the correct use of our defibrillator, which is now available in all of our facility buildings and should hopefully save lives in an emergency. Together with group work in which injuries to the eye or burns were treated correctly

In addition to the refreshed know-how of the colleagues, a GTA is expected to be offered from the coming school year, which will include medical education. From hospitalization to first aid, the children will be taught valuable knowledge. This is not only important for the children's personal development but also for their self-confidence to act correctly in crisis situations.
