Exploring nature

Bringing the forest into the classroom? Unfortunately impossible! That's why our 4th graders simply moved their classrooms into the forest and experienced a truly green classroom.

Together with teacher Mrs. Das and with the support of FSJ student Mia Seiffert, the polar bears and penguin class set off for the Geithain city park on August 21 and 22. The first thing on the agenda was to explore the different levels of the forest. Whether moss, herbs or shrubs, ants, snails or worms, all the animals and plants had to be identified and the correct layer had to be found.

The forest floor was then examined for its composition. Is sand moist? Is clay firm? Or is black earth water-permeable? We found out with a simple experiment!

After all the work was done, the children wanted to have a picnic in the park, so the breakfast break took place outside for a change.

This makes teaching fun!
