A forest full of dedicated parrots

For the pupils in parrot class 4b at the IPS Geithain, their science lessons this school year began with the topic of forests. After they built great forest models and are now very familiar with the forest as a habitat, they joined their class teacher Mrs. Möbius on an excursion to the Niedergräfenhainer Wäldchen to put their knowledge as forest researchers to the test.

In addition to lots of knowledge questions and a small explorer booklet that they worked on in groups, each child also had their very own treasure hunt assignment. All the children had to find red, green, black, crooked, old, special and things that don't belong in the forest. They even found the remains of a small wild boar, namely bones and a set of teeth.

Speaking of things that don't belong in the forest: While the outward journey through the forest focused on learning about the forest, the return journey began with a small project on the threats to the forest. Because environmental pollution poses a particular threat to the forest habitat, the hard-working parrots wanted to do something about it. Equipped with large bin bags, gloves and garbage grabbers, everyone scoured the area and diligently collected dashboards, bottles, metal parts, buckets and numerous plastic packages. With eight well-filled bin bags, everyone then made their way back to school, where the garbage was disposed of properly in bins. Sweaty but absolutely proud and with a clear conscience towards nature, everyone ended the excursion day.
