Last month, our class went on a field trip that combined learning, exploring, connecting with nature and spending time together. It gave us the perfect opportunity to take a break from our routine and apply what we had learned in General Studies and English in a fun and hands-on way, while also growing together as a group. Equipped with clipboards, pencils, and a lot of curiosity, the children took part in a nature scavenger hunt. Their task was to find things we had talked about in class—especially early spring-blooming like crocuses, daffodils, tulips, and snowdrops. But that wasn’t all! They also searched for signs of spring such as bird’s nests, butterflies, worms, snails, bees, and ants—all while practicing the English vocabulary we had learned. This activity wasn’t just about ticking boxes; it sparked the children’s creativity. Inspired by their surroundings, many began to draw the beautiful things they discovered along the way, turning the walk into a creative and enriching experience.
The trip was also a chance to explore our local area. We visited the Tierpark Geithain, where the students were excited to see and even pet some of the animals. This moment of calm and closeness with animals was especially meaningful and added a warm, memorable touch to our adventure. Afterward, we spent time playing games together in the park, laughing, running, and enjoying each other’s company. It was a wonderful way to connect outside of our usual classroom setting and strengthen our sense of community.
Along the way, a thoughtful conversation came up while we were playing in the park. We talked about how we can take better care of nature and why it’s important not to leave trash behind. The students shared some constructive ideas about protecting the environment and showed a real sense of responsibility and awareness. In the end, this field trip helped us learn more about nature and practice our English vocabulary. However, most importantly, it helped us connect more deeply with nature as well as with each other! It strengthened our class spirit and reminded us how nice and fulfilling it can be to learn and grow together outside the classroom. It was a day full of learning, laughter, and connection.
